Experiment DL15    LR Circuit - Growth of Current and Sudden Power Off

Objectives
  • Study the growth of current in an LR circuit after completing the circuit
  • Study the induced e.m.f. in an LR circuit during sudden power off
  • Study the self-induced e.m.f. of an inductor using the square waves
Description
In this activity, you will use a Voltage Sensor and the built-in current measurement of the Interface unit to study the variation in voltage and current through an inductor during switching.

In Experiment 1, you will manually switch on and off a circuit that consists of an inductor. The self-induced e.m.f. causes characteristic changes in voltage and current.

In Experiment 2, you will apply a square wave to a circuit that consists of an inductor to simulate switching. You will find that the switching on/off with square waves is different from switching on/off manually with a changeover switch.
