Experiment B05    Gas Pressure and Boyle's Law

Objectives
  • Study the change in pressure produced by a horizontal force on an area
  • Study the change in pressure produced by weight on an area
  • Study the variation of volume with pressure using the Boyle's Law apparatus
Description
In this activity, you will study the change in gas pressure as a force is applied to a fixed mass of gas. You will also study the Boyle's Law.

In Experiment 1, you will apply a horizontal force on a gas and record the change in pressure by using a Bourdon Gauge. The change in pressure is verified by the definition of pressure.

Experiments 2 and 3 are similar to Experiment 1 except that the force acting on the gas is vertical.

In Experiment 4, you will using the Boyle's Law apparatus to study the change in volume of a gas under pressure.
